My turtle is almost 3 years old. Would it be wise to get him a friend like another turtle, but one that is younger? I'm worried that he might think that the other turtle is food.

I think if you want to give him a friend you should get another turtle that is the same size as he is. At first you need to give them some space until they get to know each other. make shure you have a big snough tank too or else they will attack each other. especially if one is used to being alone for 3 years.

Another friend isn't necessary--turtles are basically solitary creatures and do well by themselves. If you did get another one, you'll have to upgrade the tank and everything in it. And if you got a female, you'd at some point be dealing with their offspring.
