Hi everyone,

I have 1 6" fancy goldfish, 1 5" comet goldfish, 1 4" comet goldfish, 1 2.5" comet goldfish, and 2 6" plecos. They are all in my 55gal tank with good filtration and normal water changes. The ph and ammonia levels are also good. I was wondering if I made the aquarium appropriate for a res could I safely add one. There are lots of plants and fake rocks throughout the tank for the fish to hide in. Is it likely that the turtle may not bother the big fish. I'm not worried about the little one cuz if I lose him it's okay.

Anything with the turtle will eventually be a meal. So if you have a close attachment with any of them, keep them in a separate tank. As for the water filtration, keep in mind a turtle makes a significantly more amount of waste... we usually suggest a filter that is 3x stronger.

Of course if u had a 2 foot fish and a 2" turtle. It would never become a meal. So do u know how large the fish must be in comparison to the turtle?

Size doesn't matter- speed and hiding does. I was curious about putting fish with my turtle too, and I looked on another turtle site (forget which one now) and someone said that his pleco injured his turtle. I wouldn't keep anything with my turtle that might injure him.

Turtles go after larger prey... they will harass and take bites out of the fins. Not all are like that but some RES are aggressive hunters.

Just a quick google and I came up with this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew6aJ6rDmsk
This guy said his pleco lived with the turtles for 3 months, then they ate it (and not quickly).

This is the page I had found earlier where one guy said an aggressive pleco was eating the eyelids of a map turtle: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Articl ... tokeep.htm

I have 3 5" goldfish or small koi? With my 5" res and smaller map. All their fins are fine. I guess it all depends on the turtles as to if they become lunch or not. So far so good. They have been together for over 6 months. But they are also in a 300 gallon stock tank so they have room to run but I have never seen them get chased.

Pretty sure Petco will take them. At least I know the one where I live does.
