Idk y I'm having bubbles on top Of my water. There like on the sides. CKyle it be because nutrafin turtle clean?

sometimes it happens to my tank too. i think its due to some sort of foods your putting in the tank??? I ant too sure but it has happened to me many times in the past. it almost looks like Coy Fish Eggs like a foamy white bubble formation. not like normal bubbles right?

Bubbles are from a variety of reasons: air stones, filter falls, etc.

Sometimes they cling on the side of the tank. Especially if you completely drain and refill your aquarium.

Is your tank somewhat new? If so this is common and will go away shortly. You are seeing oxygen bubbles being released from the water. New water in a tank with lots of splashing will aerate the water. Your filter if new could also be a source of bubbles. Bubbles will cling to rough surfaces like the glass and top of the tank. The bubbles will work themselves out. Also as your tank cycles, you'll get a bacteria slime build up on everything and any new bubbles wont stick.

You shouldn't need to add that nutrafin turtle clean to your tank if you have proper filtration and tank maintenance. You shouldn't need to add ANY chemical to your tank unless its an emergency.

i add that nurtafin clean. cuz the water be smelling so bad and water turns all white and cloudy. ever since i started 2 use it the water dont stink and it never cloudy

Sounds like your filter is undersized.

Remember your turtles live in that water and they drink it. You should only be adding chemicals if it's an emergency

these chemicals are harmless. i wouldnt buy stuff if it harmless.

Turtle Clean doesn't have a very good reputation on this forum. Remember, most products marketed for turtle keepers are unnecessary.

There is a water conditioner I got at Petco the other day, not for my turtle tanks but for my snake's drinking water. It has no scent to it, so, it definitely isn't a "chemical". I forget the name but it's got a blue coloration to it, and when uses in larger amounts it can help build up some sort of slimy film that frogs need in their water dishes. I'm not very knowledgeable on frog care. But in any case, anything that doesn't have a weird smell to it, I consider safe. It doesn't turn the water blue, either, lol

When I go home tonight I'll look up the name of it.

Adding anything to your turtle's water is completely unnecessary if you have a proper setup.

That's not always the case. Turtles urinate in that water. Unless you get an Eheim or another super expensive filter, it's hard to lower the pH. Driftwood is a nice temporary solution, but, the effects wear off over time.

The conditioner I got is by Zoomed, it's called Reptisafe. I'm not using it in my turtle tanks because I don't have to, but it seems to be helping Sophie's drinking water. It smells fresher and cleaner and not like hard tap water.

And logically, lets look at it like this: Reptisafe was a few dollars. That little bottle is going to go a long way. It won't hurt the turtle, so, why discourage it?

Also, another point, if I had a map turtle, I would definitely be using a water conditioner, given how sensitive they are to water conditions.

This is completely wrong.

Yes turtles urinate in the water, your bio filter will convert the ammonia in the urine to nitiries and eventually nitrates. As for PH, your regular water changes will regulate the PH of the water AND remove the nitrates. Regular water changes are a must for that reason.

As for filtration, you don't need an expensive eheim (although they are very nice). You DO need a properly sized filter of any brand with proper filtration media. It doesn't have to be expensive. $220 buys you a FX5, full of bio media and purigen. That's very cheap. The FX5 will handle any tank up to around 150 gallons.

Any chemical you add to the water is a chemical is a chemical you force your turtle to live in.
Water conditioner is completely unnecessary. Learn to take proper care of your water and you won't need any chemicals.

Find me one study that shows the long term effects of water conditioning chemicals on your turtle, and something that isn't provided by the manufacturer of said chemical. .....right, they don't exist.

Since we don't know for sure what these chemicals do to your beloved pets long term, let's not use them.


Reptisafe claims ... Reptisafe instantly removes chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia and reduces pH

Chlorine - will evaporate out of your water on it's own. Very few water municipals actually use chlorine anymore for that very reason
Chloramine - The carbon or Purigen in your filter will grab this and remove it from the water.
Ammonia - Your biological filtration will convert this as mentioned above.
Reduce PH - Your regular biweekly 10% water change replaces higher PH water with clean water that has a PH of very close to 7.

Notice no chemicals are needed to do what your properly setup environment will do for you.

VeipaCray: I've been doing the stuff you are mentioning for about 3 years now. Ty and Cane's water is almost identical to river water, which is what they would live in, in the wild. Like I said, I don't need a conditioner for my turtles.

However, chlorine is not the only yucky thing you can find in tap water. There can be other things, such as led. Last time I checked, led doesn't evaporate. Certain turtle species are more sensitive than others, and, because of that, water conditioners should not be totally disregarded.

Now, I'm not exactly poor, however, I make about 400 to 500 dollars bi-weekly at my job. 400 of that goes toward my rent. The rest goes for bus money and food. I don't have $220 lying around to buy an expensive filter. Maybe $220 is easy for you to come up with, but it isn't for me. And I certainly wouldn't ask anyone to contribute cash to my turtles!

This seems to happen a lot on this forum where ya'll get way to into whatever point it is you are trying to make. Come back down to Earth, and understand that not everyone is like you.
