I'm just curious as to if anyone does strange things with their turtles. I don't mean by any thing of the cruel sorts. I'm talking more like taking your turtle out to watch TV with you or to talk to it.

I talk to my turtles, but I think probably most of us do. I talk to my other pets as well. I like to believe they understand me too, lol.

I talk to Sheba daily, just to say hello & asking her how her day is going. I also tell her often that she is a "good girl". I don't care what anyone says, they respond well to "positive" attention, just like any animal would.

Also, when I feed Sheba, I take her out of the tank to feed her in a separate dish since this keeps her tankwater more clean. I put her down on a towel to dry her off, snap my fingers at her & tell her to follow me into the kitchen (she doesn't like to be carried). She always follows me (like a dog), then I pick her up to put her in her laundry tub with water & food so she can eat.

People who see me do this can't believe a turtle would listen to me in this way. But I have said it time & time again that a way to a turt's heart is thru her stomach. She knows she gets fed in the kitchen & that I am the one who makes it happen. :)

Anyone who wants to "train" their turtle to follow them, can do it easily by carrying a piece of fish in your hand, hold it up to the turtle's face (like leading a donkey with a carrot) and walk away slowly (holding the fish close to the turt) so they follow you. Eventually they will do it without you having to hold the food & they will most likely follow you all over the house when you let them out. It's very cute!

i talk to my turtle alll the time. he also likes to watch TV with me, but he can watch from inside his tank. i also like to tease him a little bit. if i pick up the bottle with the krill in it, he will chase it back and forth and back and forth and go CRAZY!! he knows EXACTLY whats in there..its really funny.. of course i give him some after the chase, that would just be cruel if i didnt

LOL! Well, there are some people out there who believe that after a while an animal & owner do communicate in some unspoken language (mental telepathy involving pictures rather than words).....they have been exploring if there is some form of ESP. I don't know if it exists in turtles, but it may explain how some dogs can tell when their owners are in trouble & come to their rescue, etc.

Well, Industrial, I think there's a lot more communication that goes on between people and animals (and animals and animals) than is generally acknowledged. Our dog really seems to read our minds. She knows what we're going to do before we do it.

But as you say, the way to a turtle's heart is through his/her stomach. As it is with most of us.

Karlyn always talks to me! When Im looking at her, she swims right to me, and her eyes shift up and down, like she is studying my face ... She comes up to the glass, and I give her a "smooch" lol... Sometimes I dance with her... she watches me dance and she is swimming at the glass and its funny, she looks like she is dancing herself.

I talk to both my little turtles every day, I also pet them on the head too. Also I would sometimes put my thumb and index finger in the the water like a wide open pinch (not actually pinching them) and one of them would swim between my fingers and put both his front legs on each finger, then I would drag them along the water. They seem to like that, if I don't drag them along the water, they just swim away.

Another thing I do with them is when they swim towards me I once accidently flipped one of them upside down showing its belly, it kept swimming towards me after it corrected it self so I flipped him over again and he started to swim while upside down. They do that often and seem to always swim towards me when I do that.
