I found this on Turtletimes.com and felt that people should know about it. This information was posted by TurtlePimp.
Basically, breeders take baby red ear sliders and "force" them to hibernate. They do this by cooling them in commercial coolers, like the ones in grocery stores. This is done so Red Ear Sliders can still be sold during the November time period.
Most of them die because they're dehydrated and soft. The bridges collapse and the eyes are usually swollen. Also, when they are cooled, they don't grow leaving them in the "look at the cute little turtle" stage.
The reason I post this is to discourage people from buying red ear sliders around these cold months due to the fact that they may come dead or very sick.
