Hey all, haven't posted in awhile. Just last week I finally got around to upgrading my RES's tank to a 90g with sand and crushed coral substrate. She's been loving all the extra room. Here's a few pics I snapped of the tank and her in it.

How is the crushed coral working for you. I'm still hesitant about substrate because I don't want to kill my filter again like the first time I used sand. Looks like you have yours about the same height as mine, and your turtle looks slightly smaller but big enough for comparison.

I have a sand / crushed coral mix in all 3 of my turtles tanks. They all love the crushed coral, it gives them little treasures to find while digging in the sand and they can nibble on it to get some added calcium.

Thanks, I may look into it again. Since I removed the Rena Smart Heater it moved my intake higher, and may be high enough if my girls start kicking it won't get into the intake. I guess I need to find a place that sells the pool sand and a bag of crushed coral to mix in. I wonder if chicken grit (Oyster Shell) would work. I've heard the pool sand is heavier and harder to kick up.

Did not know about the coral coral.. Very cool and will see if I can find some when I decide to try sand.

I get the crushed coral #5 for those interested in getting it. It is crushed down into pretty small pieces so it's easier for them to nibble on. It also needs to be rinsed very well just like sand before putting it into your tank.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
