Is this only for the summer?

Are you releasing the Blue Gills back into the wild at the end of the summer?

yeah ill be throwing them back in where I got them. Iv been fishing in different spots and there are blue gill and crappi every where ill take pics so u can see the masses of fish that just sit there looking at you waiting for a piece of food.

^ The only problem with that is the reason why it is illegal to do. If they have contracted some parasite or disease while in the pond and you release them into the wild, all the blue gills could contract it.

Yeah I tried to get rid of a few on craigslist and someone said its illegal to sell them because they dont want people releasing them into new ponds and streams and lakes and the fish making other fish in that pond sick with a disease from the pond or lake they originally came from. I may be going tomorrow to where I got some of the blue gill from and ill take some pictures of how many sit there and wait for food. So many you cant even count them and those are the small ones. there are HUGE ones sitting out a bit farther in the water like 20 times bigger then the babys watching you walk around while they follow..

I'm thinking of a set up like this. There hasn't been any posts in here a while... My main concern would be predators (raccoon, hawks / egrets etc)

Any advice?

Thanks

I think if it's deep enough, it would help discourage them. Some hardware cloth or netting would good for stronger cover.

Nice pond. Do you keep them outside in the Summer?
I would like to build a pond but for +100 degree weather, I worry about the turtles.

I've got the same questions! Where did you get the pond? I'm planning to use a kiddie pool (the cheap ones) for mine. Is plastic ok for the pond? How do you deal with the algae?
