I recently took a trip to Ottawa, and thought it'd be fun to post up some pictures of the turtles I saw (in their various forms ;))

Largest turtle that ever lived, Archelon ischyros (Canadian Museum of Nature):

I thought it's plastron was interesting... Instead of a solid shell, it was several separated plates.

Spotted turtle (also Canadian Museum of Nature). The only live turtle I saw on my trip ;)

Turtle that carries the world on it's back. This was part of the show Mosaika, on the Parliament buildings. Very cool if you ever get to check it out:

And this one I found on my last day. On the Parliament buildings, there are all kinds of carvings/statues in the stone, in, around, and on the building itself. The first day I was there, I saw a frog and a lizard, and thought to myself, "Oh! I wonder if there's a turtle!" Looked and looked but I couldn't find one.
Then, on my last day there, I was looking around, and spotted one!

Very neat! Is there a reason that Ottawa has hidden turtles? :)
