I've seen people with a separator running the whole lenght of the tank, like old internal filters in fish tanks, so that you can see the plants best. But keep in mind that most plants, even the most resilient ones (anubias, microsorium, vallisneria, ceratophyllum), need a minimum of lighting.. that won't work if you have just the 2 turtle lights, they will die.

Ooh to have the luxury of using corkbark like that...Where do you get your corkbark from?

actually the do very well. that is how I made my basking area based on Grey Goose's design. I could basically do the same thing, but two pieces on each side like this | | so that the other piece slides in between. The only issue is to get this done I'd have to drain the whole tank for 24hrs to let it cure properly.

I added a second light since I took the picture that focuses directly on the side of the tank that doesn't have the basking area. So that shouldn't be an issue anymore. Still tossing around ideas.

Well I have this sort of corkbark small factory near where I live, I don't exactly know what they do with it, but the guy sold me raw cork for about 4-5 bucks a kilo.

Well, keep us update on your project, it sounds promising. I'd love to have real plants with my res like I have in the muds tank, they're beautiful and keep the water cleaner, esp. they suck up a lot of Nitrates.

I tried a layer of plexi on top glass, with the edges siliconed and it started to peel after about a week.

Yeah edge to side doesn't work well. The method I used was small strips of plexi and used aquarium silicone on the side then stuck the side onto the glass. You can see it in this pic.

absolutely gorgeous tank layout! When I kept betta fish aquariums I made all sorts of fun landscapes. But this is such a wonderfully realistic tank!
